Live Updates | Ratan Tata passes away: Reacting to the sad news of the death of Ratan Tata, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, described him as a visionary corporate leader, a sensitive man and a great person.
Here is what PM Modi said:
Late Ratan Tata Ji was an out and out business strategist, a kind hearted and a great human being. He offered a stable hand in the helm at one of the oldest and certainly one of the most respected business groups in India. However, his contribution was not confined to the board of directors only at the same time. Several people were lucky to know him personally and they got close to him because of his humility, kindness and core value of trying to make a difference in our society.
Some words that aptly define personality of Shri Ratan Tata Ji are dreamer and philanthropy were quite vivid in him. He played a key role for fighting for social issues such as literacy, medical, hygiene needs, preservation and rights of animals etc to name a few.
I have thousands of interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji in my mind. I would see him often in Gujarat when I was the CM of the state.. We would discuss concerning matters in one or another aspects of difference. I believed that his views were very informative. These interactions continued when I came to Delhi. Deepest condolences with lot of hurt; feeling very sad that he has passed away. My sincere condolences go to his family, friends and fans in this dark time. Om Shanti.

Ratan Tata Passes Away: We shall recruit your exit with a deep sense of loss that characterizes the departure of an extraordinary person – a rare leader in today’s corporate world – Mr Ratan Naval Tata, whose invaluable contribution has transformed the Tata Group and for that matter our nation.
To the Tata Group, Mr. Tata was not only a chairperson. To me, he was a teacher, counselor and a buddy. He inspired by example. In his leadership tenure he never lost sight of the principles of quality, ethical corporate practice, and process innovation to take Tata Group to global market while adhering to a strong moral code.
Meeting the needs of people and the growth of society will always remain the principles of Mr. Tata’s life and work. In all areas he has touched from education to health that could be pointed out as the aspect of legacy, his initiatives will never fail to continue for generations to come. All of this work was backed by simple and meaningful courteous behavior in all Mr. Tata’s interpersonal communications.
On behalf of me and the entire Tata family, I wanted to express our sorrow in the passing of this true legend and patriot.
His legacy will further linger because of efforts that will be made trying to maintain the values he fought for.
